The University of Windsor’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, in the Faculty of Science, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Inorganic Chemistry, commencing July 1, 2019.  This position is subject to final University budgetary approval.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs of study in chemistry and biochemistry.  Faculty members have active research programs in a variety of areas, which include synthetic inorganic and organic chemistry, materials science, surface science, solid-state chemistry and biological chemistry. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and lead a vigorous research program in the field of inorganic chemistry, and to attract external research funding and supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.  In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in collaborative activities within the research community, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (http://www.uwindsor.ca/chemistry/), and participate in other educational, administrative and professional activities. 

Individuals with a Ph.D. in Chemistry, preferably supported by postdoctoral experience and a strong track record of publications and scientific advancements in inorganic chemistry research are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to: i) develop a vibrant research program supported by external funding. ii) lead a productive research group in the Chemistry and Biochemistry department, with a focus on inorganic chemistry and the active mentoring of B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. students: iii) teach courses in inorganic chemistry and related topics at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The University of Windsor's Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, in the Faculty of Science, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Biochemistry, commencing July 1, 2018. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry has strong undergraduate and graduate programs, along with fundamental and applied research in Chemistry and Biochemistry.  Currently the Department has 22+ faculty and 11 support staff.  Research areas include: health-related biochemistry, environmental and protein chemistry, the preparation and characterization of advanced biomaterials, synthetic inorganic and organic chemistry, and solid-state chemistry.  Our research programs are funded by the national granting councils (NSERC, CIHR), industrial sponsors and private funding agencies (HSFC, CRS, Michael J. Fox Foundation, Seeds4Hope Foundation, etc.).  We have a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair among our talented contingent of faculty.  Our department is also home to the Center for Catalysis and Materials Research (CCMR) and actively participates in the Windsor Cancer Research Group http://www.uwindsor.ca/chemistry.

The ideal candidate must possess a PhD in Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or related fields.  The incumbent is expected to establish a vibrant, externally funded research program in any area of experimental Biochemistry; however, exceptional candidates from other areas will also be considered. Significant financial resources and dedicated laboratory space are associated with this faculty position. The appointee will have access to state-of-the-art facilities for genomics, proteomics, biophysical characterization, imaging, NMR, X-ray, which will be located in a new Faculty of Science Research & Innovation Facility (Spring 2018 occupancy).

The candidate is expected to train graduate/undergraduate students and postdoctoral fellows, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biochemistry, and participate in the delivery of our successful professional graduate programs. Essential Qualifications

1) Sustainable Materials and Green Chemistry
The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, supported by postdoctoral experience, with a strong track record of publications in organic/materials related research and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. The applicant will be expected to teach courses in organic and organic materials chemistry at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will be expected to lead an active research group in organic materials chemistry with a focus on research relating to, but not exclusively limited to, sustainable materials, environmentally benign materials and/or materials processing for a greener environment. The applicant is expected to develop a vibrant research program supported by external funding and will have opportunities for collaborations with materials researchers in Science and Engineering.

2) Health Applications of Materials
The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biochemistry, supported by postdoctoral experience, with a strong track record of publications in the fields of (Bio) materials and Health Science or related research and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. The applicant will be expected to teach courses in chemistry and/or biochemistry at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will be expected to lead an active research group in the development and/or application of (bio) materials to the field of Health Science. The applicant is expected to develop a vibrant research program supported by external funding and will have opportunities for collaborations with materials researchers in Science and Engineering.

Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research (GLIER) and the Department of Biochemistry and Chemistry

The Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research (GLIER-UW) and the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (Chem/Biochem) at the University of Windsor invite outstanding candidates to apply for a Tenure-Track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Environmental Chemistry, commencing as early as July 1, 2014 or soon thereafter. GLIER-UW and Chem/Biochem are research intensive units with active and vibrant graduate programs with diverse sources of external funding within the Faculty of Science. The successful candidate will have a joint-appointment with the two units in the Faculty of Science. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active research program and mentor graduate students in aquatic nutrient chemistry dynamics as related to primary production in aquatic ecosystems and support GLIER-UW’s mission (aquatic resource sustainability with a focus on interacting multiple stressors). Particularly exciting opportunities exist for research on the eutrophication crisis in the lower Great Lakes, while expertise in large-lake nutrient stress in general would be an asset. Expertise and experience in analytical methods development, chemical cycling, bioavailability and modeling and their application to environmental research approaches are considered strong assets. Existing GLIER-UW faculty members work on aquatic environmental processes and issues and have strengths in ecological tracers, fisheries, conservation and evolutionary genetics, invasion biology, ecotoxicology, predictive ecology, biogeochemistry, large-system modeling and nutrient/metal/chemical dynamics.

The ideal candidate must possess a PhD, in Chemistry and/or Environmental science with subsequent interests in developing and delivering training in instrumental analyses related to analytical chemistry in environmental systems. Teaching duties will be assigned in Chem/Biochem and shared with graduate teaching and supervision duties within the GLIER-UW graduate program.

In addition, an outstanding record of research productivity, and a willingness to work in a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary research environment is expected. Significant financial resources and dedicated laboratory space are associated with this faculty position. The appointee will have access to state-of-the-art facilities including laboratories for trace organics and metals, heavy and light stable isotopes, applied molecular genetics and genomics/proteomics, toxicology, fish husbandry, GIS, computational simulation modeling, analytical and aqueous geochemistry and microscopy. In addition, a recently successful large infrastructure grant has established new facilities for advanced field and lab research, with particular focus on environmental stressors in the Great Lakes under the broad themes of biogeochemical function, genomics/proteomics and ecosystem tracers.
