Congratulations to Moira Parker and the Mutus Lab!

Congratulations to Moira Parker!

Moira Parker, a Grade 12 student at the Bruce Peninsula District School in Lions Head, ON, won the Natural Sciences Senior Award and a Silver medal at the17th annual Bluewater Regional Science and Technology Fair, on April 2, 2016 in Owen Sound, ON.  Moira’s project, Phosphate Removal in Wastewater using Natural Materials: Chitosan, Red Sand and Calcium Carbonate, was supported with chemicals, equipment and research advice from the MutusLab and the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry.

Undergrad research information session and free lunch - April 25, 2016 - 12-2 PM - Essex Hall Science Lounge

The UWindsor Undergraduate Chem Club is offering a free lunch for students and  professors. Brief five minutes presentations of research areas and projects will be given, and students are free to talk with the professors regarding research opportunities!

Registration and abstract submission for CEMWOQ-3: Opened April 6, 2016

Registration and abstract submission are now open for the 3rd Crystal Engineering and Emerging Materials Workshop of Ontario and Quebec (CEMWOQ-3), which will be held at the University of Windsor on the weekend of May 14 -15, 2016. The meeting will provide a forum for researchers with broad interests in the fields of Molecular and Molecule-based Materials, including: 

* structure and dynamics in the solid state
* solid state (topochemical) reactions
* materials properties; conductivity, magnetism, multi-ferroics, optical properties.
* liquid crystals;
* metal organic frameworks;
* polymorphism and crystal engineering;
* synthetic methods; microwave, grinding and solvent-assisted grinding.

Undergrad researchers win prizes at SOUSCC

Congratulations to this year’s participants at SOUSCC:  Kathleen Fontana, Sara Mechael,  Alexander Tang, Paul Meister, Dominque Leckie, Grace Teskey and Nathan Bazinski (left to right). Our students made us proud with their excellent presentations.


Three students were awarded prizes:

Materials Chemistry: (10 presentations; Prizes Available: 1st, 2nd, Honorable Mention)                                                                                                                                       Sara Mechel (Carmichael Lab)- 2nd Prize: Highly Stretchable Gold Films by Replica Molding Microstructure in PDMS
